John Littlewood - Preggio, Italy

John Littlewood has, since 1999, lived with his wife, Katherine, in a restored farmhouse in the hills above the Upper Tiber Valley of Umbria, Italy; from here he paints, draws, designs and writes. He arrived in Italy after serving as the Director of Art Center College of Design (Europe) in Switzerland and Chair of the Advertising Curriculum of Art Center College of Design (USA). He brought to these posts over 30 years experience in the advertising profession in London, Milan, New York and Los Angeles; going from Art Director, to Creative Group Head, to Creative Director and finishing his agency career as Chairman/CEO for the California office of a multinational advertising agency. He has created award-winning advertising campaigns for such clients as: The Australian Tourist Commission, DuPont, General Electric, Pepsi Cola, Toshiba and Yamaha Musical Instruments. He has taught and lectured internationally. Along the way he has done choral work with the Hampstead Choral Society, the Handle Opera Society, London; supernumerary work with the Los Angeles Opera and co-authored, with his wife and Cynthia Clifford, a book, The Riverside Church in the City of New York. After years of travelling with a sketchbook, he “crossed over” from the world of graphic design and advertising to record his impressions and thoughts in solo exhibitions. “Idillio Umbro” in 2002 and “Mestieri del Cuore”, Workers of the Heart, in 2004. Sponsored by the Comune of Gubbio, Italy, and held at the Arconi del Palazzo dei Consuli. In 2005, “Trees”, held in Città di Castello. He was born and educated in England at St. Peter’s Collegiate School, the Royal School of Church Music, and the Wolverhampton College of Art.
