Heidi von Johnston lived in South Africa for 33 years before moving to Italy. She is now permanently resident in Umbria and returns to Africa regularly for private study and inspiration. Although her recent work reflects her Italian surroundings, the vibrancy and intensity of Africa continues to influence her work. Heidi von Johnston uses painting as a vehicle to process and express her turbulent life story. Light shadow, colour and brushwork all contribute to paintings that are as unique as the path her life has taken.
